Mashapaug Pond, a freshwater pond in Providence, Rhode Island was of special importance to the Narragansett tribe. This book celebrates the pond’s past and present through poems, photos, and collages by Indigenous people. An Indigenous View of Mashapaug Pond is part of the Urban Pond Procession’s (UPP) project, whose aim is to “raise awareness about the historical significance and environmental vulnerability of Mashapaug, as well as other ponds in the Lower Pawtuxet Watershed.”
