Tomaquag Museum is Rhode Island's only Native American Museum telling the history of Rhode Island’s first people from an indigenous point of view.  We welcome hundreds of students, scout troops, educators, and tourists all year round for a variety of programs.

sample Tours

Basic Tour: 1 hour includes guided tour of the museum connecting youth to Native culture, history, and the arts. A Traditional legend is shared, and youth participate in a social dance lead by a museum cultural educator.   

 

Game Tour: 1 ½ hours includes basic tour and playing traditional Eastern Woodland games such as Bowl game, Hoop and stick game, Hand game or Moccasin game. Choose game when setting up tour. 

 

Nature Tour: 2 hours includes basic tour and a nature hike discussing indigenous plants and their uses in traditional life ways. 

 

Indigenous Film Tour: 1 ½ hours includes basic tour and Native Film Presentation with question and answer session. Choices shared when booking tour. 

 

Basic Craft Tour: 2 hours includes basic tour and making a Native craft item such as a dream-catcher, beaded necklace, beaded ring, or ring & pin game. 

 

Specialized Craft Tour: 2 1/2 hours includes basic tour and making a Native craft item such as a Traditional pinch pot, Splint Berry Basket, Finger Woven Bracelet, Corn Husk Doll or Beaded Earrings. Select one.
